As the founder of Ticking Off Breast Cancer, Sara oversees our online support hub. She brings a wealth of experience from having had breast cancer and from running the Ticking Off Breast Cancer community and website since 2017. Sara has experience in speaking and writing about the patient’s perspective of breast cancer, having written two books about breast cancer: her first book, Ticking Off Breast Cancer, published in 2019, was a 2020 finalist in the People’s Book Prize and Amazon Bestseller – it is part memoir, part self-help book for someone going through breast cancer treatment; and her second book, After Breast Cancer, is due out 2022 – this is a guide for people navigating the challenges of life after treatment for primary breast cancer.
Sara recently authored the chapter on the patient’s perspective in the 2021 UK Oncology Nursing Society (UKONS) manual – The Fundamentals of Cancer Care and has written numerous articles for various charities and organisations such as Huff Post, NCT and Maggies. She has been interviewed for various podcasts and radio shows; and has spoken about going through breast cancer at events held by various charities such as Maggies and Breast Cancer Now. As a patient representative, Sara has recently been invited to join an NHS advisory board involving patient engagement to influence service redesign and delivery and improve cancer services at a cancer alliance level within the NHS.
Sylvie and Danielle began Future Dreams with just £100. Since then we have raised over £6.5m. We couldn’t do any of this without you. Please donate, if we all act now we believe that by 2050 everyone who develops breast cancer will live.
