Future Dreams was privileged to attend a prestigious reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by Their Majesties, The King and Queen, in recognition of community-based initiatives that support people affected by cancer.
The reception welcomed a wide range of people – from support organisations and cancer survivors and thrivers, to medical professionals and advocates – all working to improve the lives of those affected by cancer. Future Dreams was honoured to stand among fellow changemakers and continues its mission to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone or without hope.
Future Dreams CEO Sam Jacobs reflected on the significance of the invitation:
“It was a tremendous privilege to attend Their Majesties’ event at Buckingham Palace and an unforgettable experience to meet His Majesty King Charles. I was proud to update him personally on the work of Future Dreams House – the UK’s only dedicated breast cancer support centre – and to share how we are supporting people affected by breast cancer across the nation. Being recognised at this level affirms the vital role community-based care plays in the cancer journey, and we are incredibly grateful for the acknowledgement.”
Clinical Breast Care Nurse Specialist Jackie Wright echoed the emotional weight of the occasion:
“It was an absolute honour to be invited to such an amazing event to represent Future Dreams. There were so many amazing individuals and charities that support people affected by cancer in one room, it was very emotional.”
A highlight of the afternoon was a performance by the Change and Check choir, comprised of women who discovered their symptoms thanks to the Change and Check campaign. This life-saving initiative was created by Future Dreams Ambassador and winner of our inaugural Lightning Bolt Award, Helen Addis (aka @tittygritty) and supported by ITV’s Lorraine show and Future Dreams.
Future Dreams is proud to have been part of the campaign and to support some of its members at Future Dreams House.
For Amanda Hanison, Support and Awareness Ambassador at Future Dreams, the event was particularly personal:
“I was proud to watch and encourage those we have supported through their breast cancer journeys singing so beautifully in the Change and Check choir, but shaking hands with His Majesty King Charles and discussing the importance of sharing my personal experience of breast cancer in order to educate and raise awareness of symptoms with him was truly my best moment ever!”

Sylvie and Danielle began Future Dreams with just £100 in 2008. They believed nobody should face breast cancer alone. Their legacy lives on in Future Dreams House. We couldn’t continue to fund support services for those touched by breast cancer, raise awareness of breast cancer and promote early diagnosis and advance research into secondary breast cancer without your help.
